India will go far and beyond to reclaim its continental superiority while the wounded Bangladesh will be facing a tough battle in the grand finale of Asia Cup scheduled on Friday, September 28.
Passionate squad of Bangladesh stuns Pakistan on Wednesday and wrecked the expectations of yet another clash between India and Pakistan with a high performance despite losing out prominent players due to injury issues.
On paper, India is going to be the hottest favorites to win the tournament for seventh time and it might hopefully third win for Bangladesh in a summit encounter.
In any tournament, final is a one-off battle in a whole isolation from the overall performance of a team in a tournament. With this fact, Indo-Bangla game rivalry has been more intense.
But the injury woes that Bangladesh is facing are definitely a dampening effect to Bangladesh reaching the final.
Due to a fractured hand, star cricketer Tamim Iqbal is already on rest mode and Bangladesh will also miss the leading all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan due to his finger injury. He may also undergo a surgery due to which he will also not be able to play home series starting September 30 against Zimbabwe.
Well, it will test India in another way. Victory in Asia Cup without their best batsman Virat Kohli and their skipper will be a big challenge when going to the World Cup next year. Obviously, Asia Cup trophy will be healing for the team after 1-4 defeat in Test Series in England. In shorter formats, the team’s exploits have always been prepared successfully over the losses in terms of playing 5-day cricket in extreme situations. Asia Cup victory for India may partly divert the attention from England loss.
The opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will be back in top order and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal will handle the bowling department. Sometimes, middle order is shaky. So, most of the things will depend on upper order, i.e. Shikhar (327 runs) and Rohit (269 runs). Ambati Rayudu looks set in all games but couldn’t finish off well while Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav troubled in middle overs.
